World

I've been working as a professional translator, interpreter and language teacher – part time and full time – since 1992. Over the last couple of years, I have gradually expanded this portfolio to reviewing and consulting tasks in the web and software localization industry. I have been able to gain experience in such diverse fields as courtroom interpretation (especially from Spanish and Portuguese into German), technical translations, software/web localization and project management for localization projects with an overall volume of up to 1,000,000 words. In addition, I have handled numerous types of translations in a variety of subject areas for many customers in the course of my life as a freelancer.

My great strength is my versatility: University courses in Physics and Applied Language Studies, years of experience in IT (I do remember the old Infocom text adventures on the C64…), but also in the world of film and writing. (If you can read German, you may want to check out my writing; additionally, some of the screenplay treatments are available in English.) This linguistic experience is complemented by professional experiences in diverse sectors of the economy, such as metal working, transport, media, or IT, plus a variety of private interests, including archaeology, historical linguistics, palaeogenetics, regional history of Northwestern Germany, cinema, literature, music, Buddhism, and Asian culture.

Moreover, my MA studies in Applied Language Studies English/Spanish have provided me with the means to assess, evaluate and revise third-party translations within the framework of quality workflow management processes (spotchecks, QA, revisions). I am now also pleased to offer language lead services and linguistic consulting for companies wishing to outsource localization or translation expertise. If you are interested in external linguistic help for large-scale localization projects, don't hesitate to contact me.

Please see my résumé for more information about my professional experience.
